Most of the inland coastal waters are shallow and have shoals and oyster beds just below the surface. As a result channels are need in order to avoid these obstacles. Some of the channels in our area are natural channels and others are man made. Many are unmarked, a few including the inlet channels and the Intracoastal Waterway are marked with Coast Guard maintained [buoys].
