Banks Channel runs behind the lower third of Topsail Island. It begins at the Intracoastal Waterway just south of red marker 86 and runs SE till it reaches the island then turns to the southwest and runs behind the island ending at the south end of island at the channel leading to New Topsail Inlet. The channel is marked with Coast Guard maintained buoys.
