Hi guys im a big freshwater fisherman but havent done alot of saltwater fishing.Im coming to Topsail oct.16 and im tring to find out what will be running then and how to catch them.We will be fishing from the surf and from the pier.Any advise will be a big help.Thanks

The time of year you plan to come is prime fall fishing season!  From the Pier and surf you can catch red drum, sea trout (specks), flounder, croaker, spots, and others.  A good way to start is with a two hook bottom rig using some shrimp pieces, blood worms or cut bait.  Another popular rig is the Carolina Rig with cut bait or live finger mullets.  Check out the site’s “Wiki” for more info on rigs and fish in the area.
