We hit the water at 7:30 this morning. Cool, rainy, light NNE wind. By 10:30 we had over 35+ fish in the boat. We caught reds from rat size to 30.” The biggest two were 29” and 30.” ALL ON TOP WATER. I am hooked on the Badonkadonks. We found a surprise school of fish also. Something kept slurping little pogies in about 1.5’ of water. Thought it was small trout. After 5-6 failed hookups on topwater, finally connected with one of these fish. It was a school of 18” Striper. Caught 5-6 of those. Kept one in the livewell that was 18.5” and called Topsail Angler to see what he knew of the regs. I then called DMF. It took DMF a couple of hours to get back to me with an answer. TA said he thought they were closed, from what he read, and DMF confirmed that. Striper gets to go free. By 11am we were done, and the fish were still blowing the topwater up when we left. I took my son to a sandbar with tired arms so he could swim and play for a few hours. TA had ragged me about catching reds instead of flounder, so after he was done playing on the bar, we tied some 4” Gulp Pearl shrimp on, and caught two 16”. Come on home after that. Great day fishing!!! This is why I say Aug. fishing is some of the best.
