Looking for pros and cons on Braid for Spanish.  Currently use 10lb mono with 20 lb shock leader for my Spanish rig.  I’ve heard the Braid is hard on rod eyelets and I don’t want to ruin my St. Croix rod.  I’ll be surf fishing Topsail around daybreak every morning and am always looking for an edge.  I absolutely LOVE Spanish for breakfast!  Or lunch!  Or dinner!  Any thoughts on this would be helpful.  Thanks.

I use braid on everything I own except my king gear.  I have several St. Croix Rods as well as a Fenwick, some Key Largos and other custom rods.  Some of the older rods might have guides that can’t withstand the braid but most modern, high quality rods should be okay.  The biggest disadvantage I see using braid in the surf is from wind induced bird nests - an experienced surf fisherman shouldn’t have a problem but I recommend to inexperienced folks that they start with mono.  Nice thing about braid is you can get more line on the reel which is handy for big drum and sharks.  You’ll get better casting distance too.

Thanks for the tip.  I’m going to give the braid a try.  I’ll let you know how it works out.  Just 10 more days til I get down there.  Can hardly wait!
Thanks again…
