Hello this is lucky dog .does any one know when the new boat ramp will open on lewis road.The tide has droped out of Virginia cerrk and have not been able to get out lately.I KNOW THE FLOUNDER ARE CALLING MY NAME.THANKS LUCKY DOG

Need surf fishing advice…

Hello all,

I am a new member here and after spending some time on exploring the site I can tell this is a great place for a novice like myself to get some tips!

I was an avid fisherman as a kid but nobody else in my family was, so my exposure to the sport was limited to fishing with shrimp and bloodworms from the pier during beach vacations and a little bit of bass fishing when not at the coast. Then I didn’t fish at all for many years. But now I have three boys of my own that are really into angling so my fire has been stoked again…

So, I have reason to be in Wrightsville in early November and I’m taking the boys for a day of surf fishing. I would love some advice from the pro’s about what fish to target that time of year. I was thinking of trying to catch some bait with a cast net and throwing out a couple of carolina rigs. I also could go with spoons or gotcha’s… are blues or spanish a possiblity that late in the year?

I have a couple of small rods that make spot seem like a good fight and I have three 7ft spinning rods with around 20lb test on them.

We’ll throw some frozen shrimp out there too so we don’t get shut out (hopefully) but I also want to try to catch something a little more exciting than spot!

All advice will be much appreciated.

PS - after reading the other threads on King mackeral, Red Drum, and wahoos, I apologize for starting such an amateur-level conversation but I have to crawl before I can walk/run…!!!

My neighbor went out today a came back with a story of a school of nice mahi around the boat.He could not trigger a bite.Any ideas on past problems like this….This is just another reason why it is called fishing !!

Sound fishing with daughter

Good morning.

I’ve been coming to Topsail my entire life and spent a fair amount of time offshore. I now have a 3 year old daughter and would like to show her a good time sound fishing. We dont have our boat down right now, so we are limited to shore fishing. Any suggestions on places to plant on the southside where she would be safe? Anything being caught right now and any suggestions on rigs?

I appreciate the advice.

Went out of topsail inlet headed for #360 and came across #364 marker north of the sea bouy. Any info on this ?

For anyone coming to the area and not familiar with the inlet I will give you the coordinates I ran on Monday 5-9 and Saturday 5-21 at low tide. It may make it a little easier than trying to guess. If you will load these into your gps you should have no issues but I must add a disclaimer that you use at your own risk as I will not be held liable.

I’m coming down to Topsail in early June for the first time. It looks like there is a pier on the sound across the street from the house we are renting. Any advice for fishing a pier on the sound side? I love surf fishing but thought I might try the sound if recommendations suggest it’s worth trying. Thanks.

Hi guys, my name is Mike and I’m from Columbia, SC. With the economy as bad as it is, everyone has had to branch out to new things. Among those is my father, who has been doing the majority of his work in Topsail. He recently bought a small apartment as an office and beach place. I’ll be working with him and going to Topsail almost every week this summer, and being 15 years old, I plan on doing a good bit of fishing. I hope to kayak fish a good bit, and any info on where I can put in or techniques that could help my hunt for reds and trout would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and God bless.

Fished Topsail back waters last summer and fall and found that I could never find red drum in the same places, what is the trick to learning the patterns of these fish, just looking for more consistent fishing trips. Any advice will help, thanks.
