Well, since I’m going to jump into my fishing with both feet, I might as well jump in on this forum the same way but let me first say to the owner of this forum; Thanks. It was just really cool to see a fishing forum for our local area and hope it will be around for years to come, as I plan to be here and gonna need a lot of advice ect, ect.

After about 20 years of saying, ‘I’m gonna get me a boat this year’, I finally got one. She aint the newest or purtiest boat but it is definitely the perfect fishing boat for me. It’s a polar kraft, 14’ aluminum boat. Not really sure if you consider it a v-hull or flat bottom. I tried searching the net for the specific model but so far have had no luck. It’s a 1981 with a 35 Evinrude motor. The friend I bought it from used it for all types of fishing and even got into duck hunting. It’s simple but already set up to do any type of inshore fishing I plan on doing, with the exception of flounder gigging. Hopefully I’ll be ready for gigging the first of the year. I got one heck of a deal is all I can say.
I’ve lived in Richlands for the last 35 years of my life(which is most of it) and I’ve done some fishing but never really got INTO fishing. I used to always make few trips a year in the fall to the piers at Topsail. Scotch Bonnet was my spot. As all of you know the hurricanes wiped out all but two piers on Topsail, so gave up the pier and started going to Fort Fisher so I could just back up to the water and not be crowded or spend all my time untangling my lines was going to learn to surf fish; unfortunately, the job I’ve had for the last 20 years gave me no time. Now that I have a regular job with some free time, I want to go all out.
I’ve been flounder gigging, fishing for sheephead, ect but only a few times here and there so all-in-all I’m a know nothing greenhorn. Yes I know I will not learn it all in a day but I want to learn as much, as quick as I can. Fwiw, fish or no fish, I’ll always have a successful trip, because the relaxation I get from being on and around the water is what it’s all about for me when it’s comes to the nitty gritty of it all.

Where I stand now:
Friday, I registered the boat(3 year)/title transfer and did the same for the trailer. My plan was to do that and get my license too, but had no idea the state of NC had gotten so greedy until I left the license plate agency, then that was re-enforced even more when I inquired about my fishing license. I’ll save my political rants/view for another thread or another day but it has definitely gotten outta control. With that said, I plan on getting my fresh and salt water license with recreational/commercial gear. Basically, my whole family loves all seafood, so I gotta learn how to set crab pots, gill nets, the works. See wasn’t kiddn when I said I was jumping in with both feet and that I have a lot to learn. For me, it’s all about the rod and reel; the wife and I, every now and then, would even grab some chicken necks and the net and catch crab the old fashion way. I have to admit now, however; since I have a boat, I want to make sure I got my seafood fix in stock by any legal means necessary. I hope none of y’all will hold that against me.

I’m sure you’re bored by now, just wanted to throw up four fingers and a thumb and introduce myself. Time to start scanning the threads and start the learning process.

I wish you all the best of luck on every trip and may God keep you safe until your return.

Jay

Hello everyone
My name is Dean and I vacation each year on Topsail to enjoy the beach and surf fish.
I’m 50 years young and love to surf fish and enjoy the sun and sand. My wife and I rent a big house every year in August and invite family and friends down to enjoy the island. We
all love Topsail Isle. Most of my family are from the Burlington/Greensboro area and go to
either Topsail or Emerald Isle every year. We got to Emerald Isle in July and return the favor in August. I look forward to meeting many of you and reading all the good advice on fishing the area.

My name is Dave, and I am the proud owner of a “new” Logic 17 CC with a 90 hp Yamaha 2 stroke. Also had a MotorGuide saltwater trolling motor and a Garmin 300 fishfinder. I installed a new compass. She isnt pretty, but she is pretty tough! The previous owners were from the Gulf Coast area, Pensacola and Mobile, Alabama. Looking to outfit her with more goodies: Bimini, propeller GPS, install new side rails, rodholders, etc

Ideally, I want to take her to the coast and do inshore fishing on bad to average days, and out offshore( to local wrecks and reefs) on good days. Hope I can make those long runs from home( Concord, NC) to the coast!

Might be looking for fishing buddies to go out with. If you have experience in offshore fishing I would welcome you to join me.
