New River Flounder/specks/reds 5/11/12

Slow trip this am. Only one nice flounder landed. Redfish heated on up after lunch on topwater, but my man had to go for a family dinner.
Picked my son up, and we put some nice trout and flounder in the boat late. Caught around 15-16 flounder this afternoon, but only two big ones. The flounder came on 4” Gulp pogys, the trout on Storm shrimp. Spent a couple good hours with him that was needed, although I wanted to kick him after losing the biggest flounder.

Sarah chose to stay inside and fish for flounder on Saturday until we got a phone call. A friend was hitting some spanish along the beach. Sarah said lets go!! We caught up with my friend in 40’ of water with some chop and the tide rolling in.Dropped in a yo zuri deep diver and a gold clarkspoon with no weight and trolled at 5 to 7 knots. Caught the first fish in a matter of moments on the deep diver. The rest were on the gold color. Fished for about a hour and a half with 5 nice fish. Great afternoon!

We had to wait the storms out last night, but it was worth it. We got a pretty late start, no doormats, but pretty fish. 13-14 total. We had to cover ground and work for them last night.

Well, the wind has finally calmed down some. Limited out tonight on this full moon. 18 fish, four hour trip. The 9 year old in the picture gigged all of them but 2 or 3. Good times! I had someone cancel for Sunday night the 6th if anyone is looking to go. Around the full moon is prime time. Here are a couple other pics from this week as well. The flounder bite is good, and the redfish have been different from day to day. This past Monday was a little slow altogether. Could see a large school of upperslots that day, but just would not chew.

Saturday blues

Went out to get the lines wet for a little while. The tide was falling and we were looking for some flounder in some deep holes.Found nothing but a few hungry blues in all the holes we hit….Did not matter what we threw they took anything.Finished with 5 blues all around 12-18 inches.

Ran the skimmer out to adjust a few thing on the boat today. But I am sure nobody can go out without dropping a line.Stopped in the waterway and dropped a Carolina rig with some live bait. ended up with 1 18” bluefish and a short seabass,also fished a jig-head with some white gulp shrimp with no results….see what else happens later this weekend if I get a chance again.

Topsail Vacation in June!

I will be bringing my family down to Topsail Island the third week of June for a week of much needed vacation. I will also be bringing my 23se Parker and plan on fishing offshore as well as inshore.

I normally fish out of Beaufort Inlet in Morehead city and have never fished out of Topsail. We will be staying near Surfside.

With that said, can anyone tell me of a good boat ramp in that area?

Also, which inlets should I consider if the weather is good enough to make it off shore?

Lastly, any general areas to consider for drum/trout fishing inside would also be appreciated.

If anyone is headed to Morehead city fishing and needs any info please let me know!
